(AP) - New Jersey's largest city is getting the red-carpet treatment.
Tuesday marked the premiere of the television series "BrickCity," which chronicles reform efforts in Newark.
Oscar-winning actor Forest Whitaker is the series' executiveproducer and was one of the guests on the red carpet outsideNewark's Symphony Hall.
Whitaker said he was attracted to the project because it tells astory that is set in Newark but resonates for people in citiesaround the country.
The five, one-hour episodes of "Brick City" examines Newarkefforts to reduce crime from the perspectives of Mayor Cory Bookerand Police Director Garry McCarthy as well as former gang members.
The series is scheduled to air on the Sundance Channel beginningnext Monday.
