A man from Harrison, New York, was arrested and charged in a wrong-way crash in Paramus, Bergen County prosecutors announced on Monday.
The crash happened around 2:30 a.m. Saturday on Route 4 near Paramus Road. Officials say Whigmer Villanueva, 56, was traveling east in a 2008 Toyota in the westbound lanes when he collided head-on with another vehicle.
Five people were transported to local hospitals with various degrees of injuries, including one victim with serious injuries, according to prosecutors.
Villanueva is charged with multiple counts of assault by auto and several motor vehicle summonses. He's expected in court on April 12 in Hackensack.
