New Year's Eve alcohol ban to go into effect on Metro-North Railroad trains

As in years past on New Year's Eve MTA will ban the consumption of alcohol on Long Island Rail Road and Metro-North Railroad trains.

The MTA is expecting tens of thousands of people to head into New York City to ring in the new year.
Most MTA modes of transportation are operating on regular weekend or holiday schedules with some extra trains for those headed into New York City on New Year's Eve.
  As in years past on New Year's Eve, the MTA will ban the consumption of alcohol on Long Island Rail Road and Metro-North Railroad trains.  
The ban will be in effect from noon on Saturday to noon on Sunday.
Alcohol consumption will also be prohibited on the platforms during that time period.
The MTA Police Department will have an increased presence at Penn Station and Grand Central Terminal to enforce the alcohol ban.
MTA police say they'll confiscate alcoholic beverages.
