New drivers in New Jersey will now have to learn how to safely navigate around pedestrians and cyclists under a new law that went into effect on Jan. 1.

The law comes after state police data revealed a 30-year high for fatalities in 2024.

The law requires new drivers to understand their responsibilities when approaching and passing on the road.

It is also now required for the driver's manual to have information on how to share the road with pedestrians and cyclists.
