New Jersey to lift decades-long ban on stun guns
New Jersey is expected to soon lift the decades-long ban on owning stun guns, according to a report on NorthJersey.com.
The newspaper reports that the New Jersey attorney general signed a consent order six months ago that acknowledged that the ban violates the Second Amendment.
The ban will still be in effect for minors, felons and the mentally ill.
Pro-gun advocates tell NorthJersey.com that the changes will give residents the power to protect themselves, despite New Jersey’s strict gun laws.
But Essex County Sheriff Armando Fontoura says that he is against overturning the ban. He says that stun guns are very dangerous weapons.
Attorney General Christopher Porrino declined to tell the newspaper when stun guns would be available to New Jersey residents.
