Meat and liquor have been flying off the shelves ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday.
At Sonny's Meat Market in Edison, whole turkeys haven't been nearly as popular as turkey wings and turkey legs this year. For the first time, owner Sonny Garey says he had to order turkey wings and legs by the truckload due to all the early requests.
The store has been restocking the trays in their display case by the hour.
“What's happening at the table is everybody is always eating the wings or the legs. Nobody's doing the white meat part, so they get stuck with it,” Garey says.
For many, Thanksgiving dinner wouldn't be complete without a special bottle of booze. At Wine Chateau in Metuchen, tequila, wine and cognac have been the holiday favorites.
Manager Anoop Puri, said customers have been coming in for Remy XO, Hennessy XO and Blue Label.
"Tequilas they like are Don Julio 1942 or Clase Azul,” says Puri, adding that when it comes to wine, "They buy French wine. But mostly they are buying California wines."
The wine and liquor store has seen a 40% increase in foot traffic over the last few days and expect even more as we inch closer to Thanksgiving Day.
Wine Chateau is open Thanksgiving Day from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. But some liquor stores will be closing early or will be closed altogether.
