(03/31/06) NORTH BRUNSWICK ? If you buy your toothpaste at a dollar store, you could end up with a mouthful of dental problems.
Health experts say toothpaste sold at dollar stores is often made outside of the U.S. Since standards differ from country to country, there may bee too much fluoride or other ingredients in toothpaste from the bargain store. Experts say some of the toothpastes they've tested have fluoride levels 10 times higher than acceptable limits in the U.S.
Dentists say too much fluoride could result in discolored or brittle teeth. According to dental experts, consumers should only purchase toothpaste with the seal of the American Dental Association.
