Over 4.2 million residents in New Jersey are fully vaccinated, but the state is still hoping to increase those statistics.
“Shots at the Shore” gave those not yet vaccinated a chance to get inoculated at the beach during the Memorial Day weekend.
Some of the beach communities are also ones that are lagging behind the rest of the state when it comes to vaccinations.
Around 50% of the population in Asbury has received at least one dose of the coronavirus vaccine, which is below the state average.
Gov. Phil Murphy opened pop-up vaccination sites in Asbury, Long Branch and Sandy Hook.
News 12 is told the state delivered 235 shots at the three sites over the weekend.
Weather is believed to be a factor, but some wonder if New Jersey needs to offer additional incentives to be vaccinated.
