Students as young as 16 could soon be voting in New Jersey if new legislation gets passed.

A bill introduced in the legislature would let 16 and 17-year-olds vote in local school board elections.

Supporters say Bill S3240 would engage younger voters in the democratic process. Gov. Phil Murphy has also backed the idea.

Newark has already voted to do this, though it's unclear when it would go into effect.
