Community members in New Brunswick hosted a school supply giveaway on Sunday for the third year in a row.
The giveaway was held at the park on 143 Joyce Kilmer Ave. in the City Center area by the Azcona family, and Swizzy Inc. Clothing, who are well known in the area.
The New Brunswick Fire Department, All Shine Auto Spa, Lifetime Boxing & Fitness all contributed to the event.
Organizers said the event is more than just a drive. It's a way for the community members to celebrate the end of the summer together before the school year begins.
Stache Barbershop offered free haircuts for kids before hundreds of backpacks were given away.
Students of all ages were able to come with their families and have a good time while getting necessary items like backpacks, clothes, notebooks, folders, pencils, pens and crayons.
The event also included face painting, outdoor sports and raffle prizes.
Attendees said it was special because it was for the community and by the community.
