A New Brunswick police officer was injured and the suspect was killed in a shootout Tuesday night.
Authorities say Police Officer Patrick Evans, 22, was responding to a domestic dispute at an apartment complex on John Street. A woman at the complex was allegedly shot at by Sixto Martinez, 21, of South River, but managed to run for help. When police arrived, Martinez was shooting at the officers from a second-story window.
Police say officers shot at Martinez, who later died from his injuries at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital.
Evans was transported to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital's trauma wing, hospital spokesman Mark Broadhurst said. He suffered a shot to his bulletproof vest and his shoulder. Police say Evans is in good condition.
