A New Brunswick man has been charged in connection with a fatal shooting that left a 31-year-old family member dead, authorities said.
Police responded to a report of shots fired at a residence on Riverside Drive at about 12:45 p.m. Sunday and found Ahmad Sannoh of New Brunswick suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, the Middlesex County prosecutor's office said in a statement. The victim was later pronounced dead at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital.
Investigators identified Hassan Sannoh, 28, also of New Brunswick, as the alleged shooter. Officials said the killing was not considered a random act of violence. The suspect and victim were family members.
Hassan Sannoh was arrested Sunday and charged with first-degree murder, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and unlawful possession of a weapon, the prosecutor said.
He was being held at the Middlesex County Adult Correctional Center pending a pretrial detention hearing as of Sunday.
The investigation remains ongoing.
