The new executive director for the Alliance for Coney Island is looking to make improvements to the year-round hotspot.
Daniel Murphy was previously the executive director of the Pitkin Avenue Business Improvement District. Two weeks into his new job, he is reaching out to the community to see what people and businesses need to improve Coney Island.
Murphy says he hopes to transform Coney Island into a destination like Times Square or Hudson Yards by the end of the decade.
"Anyone who comes to Coney Island is welcome, and every joke at Coney Island is an inside joke because there are no outsiders. This is where recreation was democratized a century ago and that informs what we do every day here,” he said.
