Neighborhood events kick off Black History Month, celebrating black heritage throughout New Jersey

Saturday marked the first day of Black History Month, a tribute to the generations of black people, and many events took place to celebrate.

Saturday marked the first day of Black History Month, a tribute to the generations of black people, and many events took place to celebrate.
The National Sorority of Phi Delta Kappa, Delta Pi chapter sponsors its annual Black History Month program at the Eagle Academy for Young Men in Newark.
The event brings many young people together, showcasing traditional African dance, clothing, food, local vendors and discussions about coping with trauma and being resilient.
Freeholders came together for a flag raising ceremony and prayer at the Union County Courthouse, educating the community about the contributions of many historic black figures.
A Langston Hughes song revival event will be held Monday and an event featuring stories about Rosa Parks will be held Thursday Feb. 13.
There will be a city-wide African American History Month Proclamation Signing Program Monday evening in Elizabeth featuring a descendant of Harriet Tubman.
