A basketball star from Jersey City stepped up this weekend to help those in need in his hometown for Thanksgiving.
Through his foundation, the Sacramento Kings' Louis King, partnered with Stop & Shop and Hunger Free New Jersey to host a Thanksgiving food and coat giveaway.
About 200 families each now have a turkey, all the fixings, and even new coats.
"I am so happy people came out to receive the donations that we are giving them, I am happy to be able to give to them so to see this line. I am super happy," said King Cares Foundation President Ative King.
"They are getting stuffing, they are getting dessert, they are getting a whole meal with also just a little bit extra for the day today that you might need, like rice and potatoes just to ensure that everyone is well fed," said Stop & Shop Manager Stefanie Shuman.
Louis King actually was not able to be there in person as his team had games on the West Coast this weekend.
It is estimated that at least 800,000 people in New Jersey need help finding a meal.
