A new nationwide report has found that more money is needed for Bronx and city parks and recreation.

Trust for Public Land Environmental Advocacy and Conservation Group found that even though the city spent more than $600 million in 2004 on parks, the total comes to about $78 per person, which is $8 below the national average. However, the city parks commissioner says the Bronx and the city will soon see $1 billion in park upgrades. The commissioner told the New York Post that his department will be spending the money on green space. He also claims that by doing the math, New York actually is above average.

The group also found that New York is below average on the number of parks per person.
