Seven years after a man was thought to have drowned off Sandy Hook, Hudson County prosecutors are now calling the 1999 death murder.
Initially, the drowning of 34-year-old Michael Augulis was thought to be an accident. Authorities conducted a preliminary investigation that determined Augulis fell overboard on a fishing trip and drowned. However, now prosecutors say more evidence shows two of the men fishing with Augulis threw him overboard knowing he couldn?t swim.
Authorities arrested Thomas Lyons, formerly of Cliffside Park, and Kevin Kulikowski, of Sayreville. Both men were charged with manslaughter in Augulis?s death.
