(09/25/06) HACKENSACK ? Five people arrested in connection with a Fort Lee hotel shooting appeared before a judge in Bergen County Monday.
Police say 29-year-old David Taylor of Florida was killed Friday morning in the shooting. Investigators believe the incident revolved around some type of cash transaction, possibly for drugs. According to police, $30,000 was recovered from the crime scene.
One suspect, Alan Plowden of Florida, pleaded not guilty to money laundering and other fraud charges during the court appearance. Julio Cruz, Edward Blancaneaux, Giselle Nieves, and Maite Castro, all from the Bronx, have each been charged with conspiracy to commit robbery. Police have not charged anyone with actually pulling the trigger.
The four suspects are charged with conspiracy to commit robbery. Each is being held on $100,000 bail. It is believed Plowden reported the shooting to the hotel?s front desk. He appeared in court alone, and is being kept separate from the four other suspects.
