A music icon from New Jersey – known for her long list of pop hits – is going back to her roots in gospel music for her latest album.
Dionne Warwick will soon release her new album titled “Songs of Inspiration.”
“It’s time to get to hearing something that says you can smile, you can have fun, you can say wonderful words to people,” Warwick says of the feeling of the new album.
The song “I Kneel” is a duet with Warwick’s son, music producer Damon Elliott, along with the voices of the Good Neighbor Baptist Church choir in Newark.
“We always lead by faith in any approach, musically, with my family…It was a very natural progression,” Elliot says.
“I Kneel” is the second single from the album. The first song united Warwick with another music icon – Dolly Parton.
“That's the first time I actually met her. And I think it was three or four minutes, we sat together and all of a sudden, we were best friends,” Warwick says.
Parton wrote the song, “Peace Like A River.”
“And I loved what she wrote, ‘cause I thought it was the old, ‘Peace Like A River,’ the hymn that I know. She says, ‘No, I wrote this song about 10 years ago. It's just been sitting waiting for the right person. And I think you're the right person,’” Warwick says.
The mother-son collaboration of "I Kneel" will be released on Mother's Day.
