The man accused in the murder of Jersey City teacher Luz Hernandez made an appearance Monday morning at the Hudson County courthouse.
Cesar Santana appeared before a judge for only a few minutes and did not speak.
Santana’s defense attorney told the judge he is waiting on important DNA evidence that was collected by police.
The prosecutor agreed to get the forensic evidence in question as soon as possible.
The judge asked for it to be taken care of by the next court hearing which is expected to take place Oct. 30.
Santana is accused of killing Hernandez and burying her body in a shallow grave. Santana was the father of Hernandez’s three children. He was eventually arrested in Miami and charged for her death.
Another person is wanted in connection to his alleged role in the crime. Officials say Leiner Miranda Lopez remains on the loose.
