Multiple people were shot and killed Saturday night in Newark, including a child.

A police presence and road closures could be seen on South Ward Street.

Gov. Phil Murphy confirmed the news in a Facebook post that reads:

"I have been updated on a shooting that took place earlier tonight in the South Ward of Newark where preliminary details indicate that multiple victims were shot and killed, including a child. Please pray for the victims and their families."

The circumstances that led to the shooting, how many were killed and injured were not immediately clear as of Saturday night.
