Drivers caught speeding in MTA work zones will now face fines as a new phase of the agency's speed camera enforcement program takes effect.
The program targets drivers traveling more than 10 mph over the posted speed limit in active work zones.
Work zone speed cameras were first authorized in 2021 for state highway construction areas as part of an effort to reduce crashes and protect road workers.
The program has since expanded to MTA Bridges and Tunnels, including the Bronx-Whitestone Bridge, Throgs Neck Bridge and RFK Bridge.
The first phase began June 30, when drivers recorded speeding received warnings instead of tickets.
Beginning now, drivers caught speeding by work zone cameras will be fined $50 for a first offense.
A second violation within 18 months will result in a $75 fine, while additional violations within that period will carry a $100 penalty.
Officials said the violations are considered non-moving infractions and will not appear on driving records or be reported to insurance companies.
