Toll of Commuting: Jersey City steps up traffic enforcement

A person on a motorcycle was killed and another person was seriously injured Sunday in a multivehicle crash on Route 1 in Edison, Middlesex County prosecutors said.

The crash happened around 8:13 p.m. on Route 1 north and Old Post Road. Police say the two people were on two different motorcycles and crashed into the back of a BMW SUV. The driver of the SUV was not injured.

Authorities say 44-year-old Alexander Teshima Chong, of Belleville, who was operating a motorcycle at the time of the collision, died. The other motorcyclist, a 44-year-old man, who was not identified by authorities, was transported to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital with severe injuries.
