The mother of slain Newark Police Sgt. Joseph Azcona is demanding that the 14-year-old charged in his death be tried as an adult.

In a Change.org petition, Azcona's mother urged New Jersey lawmakers to reassess age criteria and laws for serious crimes.

Current state law prevents the teen from being charged as an adult.
