(06/12/06) BELMAR ? Many businesses at the Jersey Shore say they?ve seen business take a significant dip in the midst of chilly June weather.
Merchants say their summer got off to a sizzling start with a gorgeous Memorial Day weekend. However, clouds and cool temperatures have since moved in and dampened the good financial spirit. One storeowner says compared to this time last year, his overall business is down 45 percent.
Despite the recent foul weather, many merchants say they?re taking everything in stride. They know a spell of sunny skies and high temperatures will boost their bottom line considerably. In addition, they say high gas prices have not really contributed to the loss in business due to the shore?s nearby location to the rest of the state.
