Most New Jersey residents say they are proud to live in the Garden State, Rutgers poll finds
Survey finds 70% of residents take at least some pride in living in New Jersey, with differences by political affiliation and income.

Seven in 10 New Jersey residents say they take at least some pride in calling the Garden State home, according to a new Rutgers-Eagleton Poll.
The survey found that 70% of respondents said they take either "a lot" or "some" pride in living in New Jersey. That includes 35% who said they take "a lot" of pride and another 35% who said they take "some." Seventeen percent said they take only "a little" pride, while 11% said they take no pride in living in the state.
The poll found differences across political affiliations. Democrats were the most likely to report taking at least some pride in living in New Jersey, at 79%, compared with 67% of independents and 63% of Republicans.
Residents with annual household incomes above $150,000 were also less likely than lower-income residents to say they take at least some pride in living in the state, at 62%, though a majority across all income groups expressed some level of pride.
"New Jersey has a bit of a reputation and is often the butt of jokes throughout the rest of the country, but residents don't let that ruin the love they have for the Garden State," Ashley Koning, director of the Eagleton Center for Public Interest Polling at Rutgers University-New Brunswick, said in a statement.
The poll surveyed 1,006 adults statewide from June 25 to June 29 through the probability-based Rutgers-Eagleton/SSRS Garden State Panel. It has a margin of error of plus or minus 4.1 percentage points.
