A North Jersey homeowner has been dealing with some unusual mortgage woes.
Joan Heleine was informed by Saxon Mortgage that she never made her December payment and had incurred eight months of late fees. Heleine did, however, mail the payment and provided the canceled check to prove it.
Once presented with the check, Saxon acknowledged the stamp and bank account on it were not theirs. The parties now believe someone intercepted the check, opened a fake account and cashed it.
Saxon says they are canceling the late fees and working out a reduced payment with Heleine. The police may also get involved.
