Morristown’s Jack Alexy led off for the gold medal-winning 4x100 meter men’s swimming relay in his Olympic debut Saturday.
Some 3,600 miles away, his Delbarton School coach, Patrick Savidge, was watching him make history again.
Alexy set state records during his time at Delbarton from 2017 to 2021.
Savidge said Alexy stood out immediately for his 6’8” frame, but also his support for teammates and work ethic.
“Seeing him perform at that level shows you that you can really do anything,” Savidge said. “You continue to work hard, you continue to give it everything that you’ve got, and you’re capable of competing at the highest level. No matter what, he should be leaving Paris at the end of this trip knowing that he’s an Olympic champion for life.”
Alexy’s next race is a chance on Tuesday to qualify for the 100-meter freestyle final.
