(06/13/06) FLORHAM PARK ? Officials in Morris County are in the midst of a late-spring offensive against an annoying summer occurrence ? mosquitoes.
Mosquito control representatives say recent heavy rains have turned Morris County?s floodplains into the perfect insect ground. They are now using helicopters to drop a corncob bi-product, which kills larvae, on the plains. In addition, mosquito control workers will eventually attack the pests from the ground on all-terrain vehicles.
Workers say they?ve treated about 3,000 acres so far. The biological agent is being dropped on floodplain areas from Chatham to Lincoln Park.
