More families seek legal action over deaths of loved ones in Twin Parks tragedy

Several more families from the Twin Parks fire tragedy are now seeking legal action over the deaths of their loved ones.
A Bronx couple who lost both their young son and daughter in the Jan. 9 fire has retained a renowned civil rights lawyer.
Mahamadou Hassimi lost his 12-year-old son and his 5-year-old daughter. Although he and his wife did not want to talk on camera, his iman spoke to News 12 on behalf of the grieving couple, who still has a child in the hospital listed in critical condition.
The family has partnered with civil rights attorney Ben Crump, best known for his recent work with the George Floyd family.  Crump released a statement saying, “It is beyond tragic and heartbreaking that this family suffered these unthinkable losses. Even as the investigation into the causes and contributing factors continues, it's already clear that this was a preventable tragedy.”
Members of the Muslim community met with Sen. Chuck Schumer outside the scene of the devastating fire to announce new federal legislation to increase fire safety for families.
Schumer says the new measures will help prevent fires like the tragic Twin Parks fire.
