The New Jersey Department of Health has confirmed two more cases of adenovirus at pediatric facilities in the state.
Officials say that another case of the illness was reported at the Voorhees Pediatric Facility, bringing the number up to five cases.
A 29th pediatric patient at the Wanaque Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation in Haskell was also reported. Officials say that this case was reported after the children began showing symptoms.
Health officials say that the strain of adenovirus at the Voorhees facility is different than the one found in Haskell. Haskell’s strain is responsible for the deaths of 10 patients. Health officials say that the children who died all had severely compromised immune systems.
Health officials say that the department is working with both facilities to provide infection control recommendations and identify other possible illnesses.
