? The 16-year-old Montclair High School football player who collapsed during a game Monday died Wednesday night from his injuries.
Ryne Dougherty, a linebacker on the junior varsity team, collapsed after making a tackle during a game at Don Bosco Prep in Ramsey. After the collapse, he got up briefly, but then fell again. He had been in critical condition at Hackensack University Medical Center with a brain hemorrhage.
The death marks the third football-related tragedy to take place in New Jersey in the past 10 weeks.
Students and teachers grieved during the school day on Thursday, when the tragedy was announced at Montclair. Flags were lowered to half-staff and prayers were said for Dougherty and his family.
The wake will be held at Hugh M. Moriarty Funeral Home on Oct 19 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. The funeral will be held at Christ Church at 68 Church St. on Monday.
