An Ocean County man has been sentenced to two years of probation and can never own a pet again after pleading guilty to animal cruelty.
Clifford Robbins, 76, was charged last summer after his yellow lab Mocha was found dead inside a travel carrier, which was connected by a hose to the exhaust pipe on Robbins's car.
The 14-year-old dog was terminally ill, and Robbins initially claimed he did it to put the animal down.
Mocha's death caused an outrage among the community, who petitioned law enforcement to look into the case.
Robbins will also have to serve 30 days community service as part of his sentence.
