(01/06/06) AUGUSTA ? Baseball fans in Sussex County will once again hear the crack of the bat this summer with the return of minor league baseball to the area.
A franchise in the Canadian-American League is moving into the stadium left abandoned by the New Jersey Cardinals in October. Business owners hope the team?s arrival leads to a boost in their bottom lines. Residents say they are glad to have baseball back, and they are also glad the stadium won?t be sitting abandoned for long.
Representatives of the team have promised to be extremely interactive with the community. In addition to offering low ticket prices and cheaper parking, they are asking for the community?s help in naming the team. Open tryouts will also be held for locals hoping to get their shot on the diamond.
