A nursery in Millstone Township will house trees that will eventually grace the new World Trade Center memorial in New York City.
Halka Nurseries supplied the original trees at the Twin Towers in the 1970s. Now, the nursery will keep more than 400 trees at its 12-acre field for the Freedom Tower memorial. Chet Halka Jr., owner of Halka Nurseries, says a few of his trees were chosen for the site and the others could come from anywhere.
The nursery has also grown trees for the sites of the World War II and Korean War memorials in Washington D.C. Halka Nurseries will also supply trees for new Martin Luther King Memorial in the nation?s capital. The projected time for the tree replanting at the Freedom Tower is sometime in 2009.
