Middletown school officials have voted to close a popular elementary school, despite multiple protests from the community.
Officials said that it would cost nearly $4 million to maintain Port Monmouth Elementary School. The student body will now be combined with the new Monmouth Elementary School.
Superintendent Dr. Bill George says that combination would mean lower class sizes.
Nearly 50 students and parents rallied outside the meeting Wednesday afternoon and evening to protest to closure.
