(09/16/06) TRENTON - Mercer County Criminal Courthouse remained closed this weekend while health officials test for traces of the potentially deadly Legionnaires' disease.
Carol Green, an independent title searcher at the Mercer county court, is in critical condition at the intensive care unit at Capital Health System in Trenton. Diagnosed with Legionnaires' this week, Green's illness caused the state to close the courthouse while health officials tested the building for traces of the bacteria. So far no signs of the disease have been found and the state's hope is to reopen Monday morning.
Health officials stress that Legionnaires' disease, coming from the bacteria Legionella, cannot be transferred from person to person. They say that people most at risk are the elderly, chronic smokers and those with an underlying lung disease. The same officials added that Green's case seems to be an isolated incident.
