Mayor Steve Fulop says two Jersey City police officers infected with coronavirus are in serious condition.
A total of 66 officers have called out sick with flu-like symptoms since March 11. Forty-two are at home awaiting test results and 24 have already returned to work.
Jersey City Public City Commissioner James Shea says that despite the virus, the city is running as usual. He says with 950 officers on the force, there are new safety precautions put into place to make sure everyone stays safe.
Jersey City Police Chief Mike Kelly says precincts and cars are sanitized daily and deep cleaned twice a week.
The fire department says it has no positive case but three firefighters are quarantined.
The mayor says the pandemic is expected to cost the city about $1 million a week.
