Edison Mayor Sam Joshi says that two of the hospitalized people are in critical condition. Officials initially stated that one person was killed in the fire, but they then said that that person was revived.

"The building was flaming. They bought somebody out. I don't know if he was alive or what,” says resident Paul Werner.

"The windows and everything was blazing. I was like, ‘Whoever was in there, they can’t be alive.’ It’s just too much smoke, too much fire,” says resident Virginia Taborn.

Officials say the fire started in a bedroom in the C Wing of the building. Inman Grove Senior Center has four wings. Officials say the C Wing is uninhabitable as a result of the fire. The mayor said that D Wing was also impacted by the smoke.

Residents in all four wings were evacuated. Some were taken to a hotel for shelter, and others were taken to the Edison Community Center.

The cause of the fire was not immediately known.
