The Supreme Court could soon be tackling the question of whether a person’s text message can be responsible for someone else’s actions.
Lawyers for Michelle Carter filed an appeal on her involuntary manslaughter conviction.
In her case, a Massachusetts judge determined Carter's text messages to her boyfriend, Conrad Roy III, led to his suicide.
According to one of her lawyers, Carter "did not cause Conrad Roy’s tragic death and should not be held criminally responsible."
The high profile case has raised questions on free speech, and the effect of written or typed words.
