The Marine Mammal Stranding Center in Brigantine has saved more than 5,800 animals over the past 45 years - from seals to sea turtles.
But the center has recently found itself caught in the crossfire of a debate that is becoming highly politicized over the recent dead whales washing up near the Jersey Shore.
Social media disinformation about the group’s finances, a man bursting into the office and conspiracy theories all have staff and volunteers worried and stressed as they work overtime to find out why the whales are dying.
