Many students in the Bronx and city will be taking statewide standardized English exams for the next two weeks.
The English exams test students? skills in reading, writing, grammar and other subjects. The test is part of the federal ?No Child Left Behind Act,? which expanded annual assessments in reading and math. All students in grades three through eight must take the tests. The results will determine if students in grades three, five and seven move on to the next grade level.
Some education advocates have been opposed to the tests results carrying so much weight. Many parents have complained the tests are unfair and very stressful for their children.
The standardized math exams will be given in March.
