Omar Bridges, 27, shot Officer Eduardo Patinho during a shootout that involved a high-speed chase more than two years ago. Patinho required 13 surgeries to his face and shattered jaw. Authorities say Bridges, who has been identified as a member of the Bloods gang, was also injured during the exchange of gunfire.
This isn?t Bridges first sentencing. When he was 14 years old, he was sentenced to serve seven years in state prison for killing a pizza delivery driver.
Bridges won?t be eligible for parole for at least 35 years. He is expected to appeal Friday?s decision.
