A man wanted in Tennessee on a charge of rape of a child was arrested in Union County after authorities tracked his vehicle using license plate-reading cameras, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.

Toyin Adekale Patterson was wanted in Jefferson County, Tennessee, in connection with the charge, authorities said.

The sheriff’s office said Patterson had been entered as a wanted person and information about his vehicle was added to the Flock Safety camera system Friday afternoon.

Patterson’s vehicle was later detected by a Flock camera in Scotch Plains, and information about the vehicle was shared with neighboring law enforcement agencies, according to the sheriff’s office.

Fanwood police later spotted the vehicle traveling in Fanwood after they received an alert from the camera system and conducted a traffic stop, authorities said. Patterson was taken into custody.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office credited the Scotch Plains and Fanwood police departments with assisting in Patterson’s arrest.

The sheriff’s office did not provide additional information about the allegations underlying the charge.
