A man is presumed dead after police say he jumped into a river in Newark following a hit-and-run accident. Police say around 2 a.m. Monday the man hit a pedestrian at the corner of Market and Chambers streets. The suspect apparently got out of his car, ran and jumped into the Passaic River.
The man's body has not been located or removed from the water yet.
According to police, the 32-year-old hit-and-run victim is listed in stable condition at UMDNJ. He has non-life threatening injuries to his legs.
