A man from East Orange is dead after being struck by a car that was being chased by police Monday morning.
The victim's family says Darroll Morris, 55, was walking his dog when he was struck and killed at the intersection of Lincoln Street and Park Avenue.
Police say Tariq Sewell of Vauxhall was behind the wheel of that car. According to police, 26-year-old Sewell already has 15 felony convictions, most recently for attempted murder.
According to police, Sewell now faces charges of aggravated manslaughter and death by auto.
Police arrested six people who were in that pursued vehicle, three males and three females, one a juvenile. So far, Sewell is the only one charged.
It's not yet clear why the police were chasing the car.
Morris is survived by six children and several grandchildren. His family says he served in the Marines in the 1970s.
