Amonra Jackson, 25, was in a stolen car when police caught up to him Wednesday. Jackson is accused of stealing $17,000 worth of the intensely bright headlights often found on high-end vehicles. Police say the lights are then sold on the streets.
Oneida Tretola is a headlight theft victim. She says the cost associated with replacing them makes her sorry she ever purchased her Lexus. Tretola?s insurance covered $4,056, but she still had to pay the $750 deductible.
George Mytrowitz, of Market Body Works in Newark, says the headlight thefts have kept him busy. He says he replaces up to four sets each month.
