A man accused of setting his uncle on fire and killing an East Orange merchant faced a judge in the Essex County Courthouse Wednesday.
The Essex County prosecutor?s office says Lamar Tidwell, 24, fatally shot shopkeeper Allen Cuff on January 3. According to prosecutors, Tidwell was apparently settling an earlier dispute between him and Cuff. Authorities say on January 12, Tidwell doused his uncle, Richard Burns, with gasoline and set him on fire. Tidwell was charged with aggravated assault and arson after his uncle suffered second and third-degree burns. However, a few days after the incident, Burns died from his injuries and Tidwell was charged with murder.
Tidwell pleaded not guilty on all counts against him, including two murder charges. His bail remains set at $1 million.
