The Mall at Short Hills was evacuated Monday afternoon after a plumbing issue caused parts of the mall to flood.
The Millburn Fire Department responded to the mall and ordered everyone to leave the premises, including employees.
Customers inside the mall say that the evacuation was done very orderly.
“We were walking around the mall and we noticed that every single store was closed and locked, so they did it very quickly,” says shopper Heather Kapsimalis. “They got everybody out.”
The
mall’s website states that a water main break under the mall caused the issue. But the water company says that the pipes are not its equipment. Calls to mall management have not been returned.
The website states that the mall was to remain closed for Monday.
