Well, Friday is here at News 12 and that means it's time for Main Street, New Jersey. And this morning we're in News 12. New Jersey's Kimberly Kravitz is joining us live this morning along with Mayor Hector Hector. Laura. Good morning, Kim. Ok, good morning to you, Nick and Simon. Yes, we're so proud to be here with the mayor this morning, very early hour but busy Main Street. So thank you for being here. Tell us about this corridor here and what the redevelopment plans look like. Well, we're so excited to be up this early in the morning in the city of the state, New Jersey. We're presently in the heart of the city on Main Avenue across the street from us. You have our bus terminal right behind us. You have one of our newest developments designed to look like standing Dominoes in honor of the diversity of our community right across from us. You have the 7-Eleven, the address of the Domino building is 7-Eleven Main Avenue, but we're excited right here where you have so much going on early in the morning in the city of the State. We're an amazing diverse community. 3.2 square miles with over 70,000 residents. We're about the fifth most densely populated city in the United States of America. There's so much investment, historic investment going on right now. Most recently, we've accepted money from the New Jersey Department of Transportation. Working with them will be relocating the bus terminal right across the street to a $6 million brand new state of the art bus terminal where individuals will be able to connect and individuals from other cities or other areas can stop shop. Enjoy the amazing foods and eateries. I like to say as mayor, it's like you've traveled the whole world within a few blocks because of how many options you have food from all over the world right here in the city of. And we are certainly excited and I could tell you just light up, I mean, mayor, you're born and raised here. So it certainly shows your passion for this city. Thank you for joining me this early. Friday means it's New Jersey. It's main street here on news 12, New Jersey or something like that. And this morning, this morning we thank you this morning we're in Passaic, New Jersey. That's right. You just gotta make sure you squeeze that in. New Jersey's Kimberly Kravitz continues her tour and Kim, you're on a rooftop of a building. What are you doing? It's special up here. You have the whole view of New York City behind us. But what's even more special is this father's son duo here that is in business together and we have a view of this gorgeous rooftop to be. So tell us all about it, Alex and Alex. So we've got a, one of a kind unique space and we came up here one day, we didn't want to waste it. And as you see, you got New York here, you got all this space. You got a bar VIP lounges, dance floors, seating that we're going to have. It's in a shop center. You got taco store, hot dog place, hair salon, nail salon. And it's something that we think is going to be very different in the area and a game changer for the city. Yeah. It's a good way of using this space for sure. And dad, what is it like being in business with your son? It must mean so much to you. It's a wonderful, wonderful, excellent. What could be better? Right? I mean, you're, you're doing this together. It's a vision that you have the two of you. And I was very surprised to even hear that you were father and son. You guys work very well together in business. So tell us about Passaic, why do you think people may leave New York City and come to a rooftop here? So we've been, our family has been mosaic for actually over 60 years. So we see the value in the city and we think the city is just great. There's a lot of good things coming, a lot of businesses coming in what you're doing today and you know, we think people are going to come and see what we see. So tell us what to look out for. What's gonna be the name of the club. The name of the club is gonna be I want you. So then you'll never forget the name. So when is it opening? We're open September. Oh, this September. Ok. So in September, be sure to come to the downtown section of ISA this rooftop to be, you could see Scott turn around. I mean what it looks like now and what it will look like. Come September. I want you. And this is going to be at the very top of 8 22 Main Avenue where there's everything from tacos, tattoos waffles, tacos, everything. Oh boy. Thank you so much for joining us. It's Friday, not Taco Tuesday and it's also time for Main Street, New Jersey. But today we're in and our Kimberly Kravitz is joining us live from a Mexican restaurant. Kim Anything for breakfast. Yes, they opened up early, especially for us. Today. I'm here with Abriel who's the co owner of a Chihuahua, a family restaurant. This is your second location here, correct? Yes, this is our second location. After six years. We uh we open and hopefully we're looking forward to open our third one next year. Very nice. And what are some of your best sellers? I know that you're very uh well known for your, of course. OK. Our uh best seller is California burrito that it's uh like a signature burrito from our, our business and this uh cucumber lime and see uh a which is very refreshing, especially now in the hot days. So, do you have family roots here in? This is your second location here, correct? Yeah, this is our second here in and you said it's a family business. Did you raise your family here? Uh Actually we came from Mexico and me and my partner are, are the first ones to open our business here in Passaic. There is a huge Mexican population here. Correct. Yes, it is. 80% of the population here in Passaic is Mexican. So I know that it's hard for the viewers to tell, but we're actually right here on Main Avenue, which is an incredible location. So I know as opposed to the other one, you said there's a lot more foot traffic here. It's easy to, to park this one. You find parking any time and, you know, you can visit our, uh vitamin shop right across the street and like, you can eat healthy over there and come back and have your burrito here at the A chihuahua. Now, I'm gonna show uh our viewers my new favorite thing. So this is a, I'm telling you, uh, I guess it's the more Italian way of saying it, but it's refreshing. It's cucumber, muddled, mint watermelon water and it's a little sugar too, but it's absolutely delicious. We are at a bakery in town of family business. Wonderful people. And I'm here with Tommy and Liliana, the daughter. Thank you so much for having us. It smells delicious in here. How long have you been in business? Eight years, eight years. What's it like? Working with mom and dad? Um Pretty good. I helped them a lot. Honestly, tell me about all these delicious treats. What do we have here? What are your favorites? Uh These are like these kind of like cookies that they have like uh they're like mm like normal dough and like they have like sugar on them. Everything looks better than the next. And how, how about all these breads? Show me the bread. Uh These uh these are like the sweet breads that have like this kind of uh Sprinkle thing that are made from sugar, uh flour and some stuff like that. And So the bakery is Tommy's Bakery, right? Tommy's Bakery and it's his. Tommy is his dad. So it's a family business. And how long have you been in Passaic? The family? Uh, I don't really know about that question but I think, like, like, since I was born, like, 10 years I used and do you love the city that the city has been good to you too. Yeah. It's a really a nice city, honestly. But there's like a lot of like uh noise here, honestly. Yes. Yes. Yes. And again, if there's anything that you'd like to say on behalf of your family, feel free. Yeah. Uh just that you, do you love this? Do you love waking up and doing this every day? Yeah. It's really fun. Honestly. Like I like baking. My dad likes baking, my mom likes helping out on the cashier. Well, let's have mom and dad. Wave goodbye as we send it back to studio. We're here with the family. So if you've been to mosaic, you'll know this piece of vintage property. It's got everything and this is Eduardo, the manager. Thank you for joining me out here. You have everything, ice cream pizza game. Show us what you have. Well, we have a little bit of everything. We have a little bit of arcade games, a little bit of crane games, a little bit of little kit rides, a little bit of everything for a little bit of, for everybody but love is that it runs through the years, you know, it's decades of history. So it's good for the older folks and it's good for the kids. Right. Yeah. So we like, we try to keep it a little bit entertained for everybody, like for a little bit for the little kids and some for the adults. We even have pool tables for them if they want for the birthday parties we have as well. They're very interesting. Something like that. Yes. And you could have the whole family come out here and just spend the whole entire day. Yes. Even we have great food too. We have fresh, mainly pizza. Our homemade waffle cones are made here as well. We try to keep everything fresh and the prices are also very fair. Have you kept them low over the years? We're trying to, but you know, certain things have to change but we're trying to keep it as low as we can. Yes, I can tell it's really fair pricing. Great for kids, do parties as well for kids. Yes, we do. We have our own private party room for the kids and we try to keep a show. Me this one. Yeah. So let me show you real quick. You swipe that card. That's high tech. Yeah. I'm here with Anna and Karen and we are so excited to be at and this is our spot here. Mother and daughter in Passaic. Tell me, how long have you been here? What's the concept behind this? Ok. So we've been here for about 19 years, but the actual storefront started about 20 years ago. So it was about, we were selling out in the streets for about a year and we got this location. So we've been here for 19 years, but the person that really started this and we, um, came along was Luis right here. The picture he's the owner. Um, he's the owner originally. Um, unfortunately, he passed away about almost two years ago. So we wanna keep his legacy going. That's why we changed the name to because, um, they all always called him El Guero. So we wanna keep on his legacy. Keep on, um, the business going. Now we have two locations, one here and one in Cliffside. Cliffside Park, everything that you have here. I mean, there's so much, there's no shortage of everything. There's, there's cow feet, there's, there's boots, there's hats, there's belts, go, go through your inventory. So initially we had just belts and, um, cowboy boots and especially more for men. So we extended it more to like having female boots. We have um, accessories for females as well. Even for Children. We have uh, saddles here. We have bow ties. We have a plethora of things honestly, and I'm wearing it. This is unbelievable. If you are in or anywhere nearby, check it out. Monterey, I promise you, you will leave here very happy. Sending it back to you in the studio. I love the Texas look with the Jersey accent. It's great, great.

And even over there, you could see it says where every candy is a sweet memory. And I'm here with Evelyn, the owner of this shop. Tell us all about where you get the candy from. Not from America, it's from everywhere. Yeah, we bring it from Colombia, from Peru, from Mexico. Uh from here. Just retro candies that we can't find anymore. We try to have a little bit of everything. Yes. And so I know that you have pinatas that you make up in town for each year's parade. Yeah, we make the, the New Year's Pinata for the Pinata drop um for every New Year in Passaic. So it's something that people look forward to and I know this, that you even have a Barbie balloon here. So there's really something for everyone. You could completely get lost. Talk about maybe some of the vintage each candies that you have here too. We have candy cigarettes. We have candy necklaces. We have the swirl pops. We have the chocolate cigars. We have the sugar daddies. We have the sours. So all kinds of candies that sometimes we can't find. It's like candy galore. And how have you been in town? And how long have you been? We've been here about nine years around there. We, we started in June of 2014. We opened up and, uh, we moved down from Philly and we came down here. I was born here. And so I just wanted to open a candy shop for the kids in our town. It's unbelievable when you walk in, you could smell it. It is absolutely amazing here. It is like magic, truly. And thank you so much for having us, Evelyn. We've just learned it here and it's a very special Friday because now every Friday there is a line out the store like you wouldn't believe we're going to show it afterwards. But basically what happens is I'm here with Hakim who owns this business. It's very strategic. Everything in here is 10 $10 today. Yes, sir. $10. Everything in the store. Tell us about it. How does this all come to be? Everything is Amazon return anything in the store, come to the store. Doesn't matter how much it could be. 34 $500 it still is gonna be $10 today. So I have this shark and this is 400 bucks. It's gonna be mine for $10 today. $10. Yes, ma'am. Unbelievable. Tell us about this. Why should people come to be just for this? This is an opportunity because you get a chance to buy things you can't afford for only $10 which is $500 400 dollars. It doesn't matter how much you're only paying $10. And is this only in Passaic here? We have another location in Paterson. That's where my partner, we have another store there and he said, let's open another one. Like, you know what I wanna do it in because I've been working in for 29 years. I have a Mr Softy truck. You have a Mr Softie truck, too soft for 29 years. And I figured out sick people that deserve something good like this to give him a chance to buy a lot of stuff for a really, really, really cheap price. And you wanna do, you wanna show the line really quick. Come out. It's a race. The first guy in line. He came in at 12 30 he got his chair, his blankets. You gotta see this, this line. Main Street New Jersey: Traveling the ‘whole world in a few blocks’ while touring Passaic

In this week's edition of Main Street, New Jersey. Our Kimberly Gravis took a tour of and as the mayor says, it's like visiting the whole world on one main street. It's like traveling the whole world within a few blocks in the city of. There is a huge Mexican population here. Correct. Yes, it is. 80% of the population here in Pa is Mexican and for families who may not know what to do with the kids. This weekend, you could always come to rock and roll for pizza, ice cream and games for the little kids, for the adults. We even have pool tables for them. If they want. For the birthday parties we have as well, then you could take the kitties to try some of the most popular candy from around the world. We bring it from Colombia, from Peru, from Mexico. We have candy cigarettes, we have candy necklaces, we have the swirl pops, we have the chocolate cigars and a special treat for mom and dad. Huge savings on everything in the store. Everything in here is 10 $10 today. Yes, sir. $10. Everything is Amazon. Return anything in the store. Come to the store doesn't matter how much it could be. 34 or $500 it still is gonna be $10 today, many of the businesses we visited are keeping it all in the family. It's a really nice city. Honestly, I like baking. My dad likes baking. My mom likes helping out. Our family has been for over 60 years, so we see the value in the city. We think the city is just great. This mother and daughter from Passaic carried on a legacy of a cowboy boot business, which was a true hidden gym in the city. Initially, we had just belts and cowboy boots and especially more for men. So we extended it more to like having female boots. We have um accessories for females as well even for Children.
